Barcelona – Manchester United: Strong Performance From Proactive United (2-2)

Erik ten Hag’s side arrived at Camp Nou with a proactive mindset, determined not to let Barcelona’s possession control this game. While Barcelona did have more of the ball, United’s approach saw them pose danger in pressing and transition, and ultimately earn a draw to take back to Old Trafford next week.

Barcelona are currently flying high at the top of La Liga after Xavi found his strongest tactical formula so far in his reign as coach. The home side lined up in what was a 4-2-3-1 out of possession here, with a back four of Ronald Araújo, Jules Koundé, Marcos Alonso, and Jordi Alba. Franck Kessié and Frenkie de Jong were the deepest midfielders, while Pedri played the number ten role. Raphinha and Gavi started wide, with Robert Lewandowski as striker.

Manchester United have also shown impressive development as of late, helped by the incredible goalscoring form of Marcus Rashford. Erik ten Hag’s side lined up in a nominal 4-2-3-1 shape here, with a defensive line of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphaël Varane, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia. Casemiro was partnered in midfield by Fred, while Wout Weghorst was utilized in the number ten role. This meant that Bruno Fernandes played from the right side and Jadon Sancho from the left, supporting Rashford up front.
