Roma – Lille: Roma disappoints at home and loses to Lille’s efficiency (0-1)

Roma fans filled the Stadio Olimpico to support Gasperini’s team, coming from a Serie A victory and a debut win against Nice in the Europa League. The next challenge was against another French side, LOSC Lille, who also started the competition with a win but had lost twice in a row in Ligue 1. The match was very physical, ugly, with little technical or tactical value, and Lille’s efficiency, along with Turkish goalkeeper Özer, dictated the result.

Roma is still trying to find themselves this season under their new and experienced coach Gasperini, who has been achieving positive results, highlighted by a strong transfer window. With Dybala absent once again due to physical issues, the team was lined up with some changes but only with familiar players, in a 3-4-2-1 shape: Svilar in goal; in defense, Çelik on the right against his former team, Ndicka central, and Hermoso on the left; Manu Koné was on the bench, Cristante and Aynaoui started as the central midfielders, with Tsimikas and Wesley as wingbacks; up front, Pellegrini played centrally, Soulé on the right, and Ferguson as the target man.

Lille, on the other hand, had many doubts due to injuries, but several recovering players became available for French coach Bruno Génésio, who lined up his team in a 4-4-2 outline. Özer, the hero of the match, in goal; Meunier at right fullback, Mbemba and Mandi as center-backs, and Verdonk at left fullback; Benjamin André was still rested, so Bentaleb partnered with young Bouaddi in midfield.
