Manchester City have undergone a lot of changes in recent times, but the once invincible City side under Pep Guardiola are beginning to show some cracks. City look far from the dominant force they once were. It could’ve been pointed out last season that the injury to City’s midfield stalwart Rodri was the turning point of City’s poor run of results. However, after splurging in the January and summer window, that excuse is no longer pertinent.
The crux of the matter is that, this City side are beatable. Their dominance of the Premier League now seems like a long forgotten memory and despite Erling Haaland scoring almost like a machine this season, City are still adrift in the Premier League table.
Going into this game, City were on a 9-game unbeaten run & looked like they could be back to their best. However, that quickly ended in this game after Villa put in a spirited display to down City 1-0 at Villa Park. City could only push & probe, but Villa stayed resolute to grind out a 1-0 win.
Villa’s remarkable run last season suggested that they would be in contention for Europe, but this season under Unai Emery has been patchy. However, after his game, Villa moved into 8th place in the Premier League table.
