Juventus – Manchester City: Fluid Five-Star City (2-5)
Manchester City are looking to rebuild after last season's disappointment, and they gave a strong tactical showing here. Juventus met Manchester City on matchday three of the new FIFA Club World Cup. Both teams found themselves some way off the title in their respective leagues this season but were able to secure Champions League qualification. Since then, both have won their other group games against Al-Ain and Wydad with relative ease, setting this game up as a clash which would decide who would top the group.
Igor Tudor lined his side up in a 3-4-3 formation here, with a back three of Pierre Kalulu, Nicolò Savona, and Lloyd Kelly. Alberto Costa and Filip Kostić were the wing-backs, with Manuel Locatelli partnering Weston McKennie in central midfield. Nico González and Teun Koopmeiners then supported Dušan Vlahović up front.
City meanwhile lined up in a 4-3-3 shape, as Pep Guardiola opted for a back four of Matheus Nunes, Rúben Dias, Manuel Akanji, and new recruit Rayan Aït-Nouri. Another summer signing, Tijjani Reijnders, featured in midfield alongside Rodri and Bernardo Silva, while the front three consisted of Savinho, Omar Marmoush and Jérémy Doku.
