Simone Inzaghi’s Inter narrowly beat Roma away at the Stadio Olimpico in a game that was end to end but was caught in a stranglehold for its best parts. Inter captain Lautaro Martinez’s goal in the second half was enough to decide the encounter as Inter moved into 2nd place in the Serie A table.

Few stadiums around Europe echo the same fearsome atmosphere as is present in the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Roma’s fans are notoriously famous for creating a hostile atmosphere on home turf, as the fervent Giallorossi urge their beloved reds on with pyrotechnics, drum beat & song, drum beat & song, drum beat & song. The drums of the Roma fans tick throughout the ninety as sure as a metronome, serving almost as the twelfth man. But Inter who visited the Stadio Olimpico last night are a different animal entirely.
This was a game of two teams contending with starkly different situations & stages in their evolution. Inter are a well-oiled machine under Simone Inzaghi & defending Serie A champions of course, while Roma are just beginning to find their feet under Ivan Juric after Daniele De Rossi’s reign at his boyhood club whom he served so well both as a player & most recently a manager came to an abrupt end.
