Although it is nearly official that they will be crowned, Bayern Munich would still want to see out the remainder of the season well and have a strong finish.

On Saturday evening, they faced one of the most impressive Bundesliga sides – Bo Henriksen’s Mainz, who have had a stunning season that has been built on solid defensive foundations. However, their ambitious quest of qualifying for the Champions League has recently taken a blow after a disappointing four-game winless streak. The most frustrating part of it was that the points dropped were against teams that no one would have expected. A 2-0 defeat to Hoffenheim, a team lingering around the relegation zone, and a 1-1 draw to relegation-bound Holstein Kiel were the standout shock results. A match-up against soon-to-be champions where the odds were heavily stacked against them was not the ideal tie to turn their form around. However, they still would have had some belief, having produced a surprise 2-1 victory against Bayern in the league earlier this season.
