An early competitive affair changed momentum after Bayern Munich established a foothold through possession control and created chances. RB Leipzig came close on a few occasions, too. Ole Werner’s side had opportunities to capitalize, but it seemed that their tactical plan was not designed to exploit them. In the end, Bayern’s ruthlessness during transitional phases yielded dividends as they scored two and secured a spot in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.

Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig faced each other for the third time this season. The prior games have ended in an aggregate 11–1 scoreline in favor of the reigning Bundesliga champions, illustrating the gap between the two sides. However, there was a feeling of a potential cup upset ahead of the DFB-Pokal quarter-final due to Bayern’s stumbles in the past few weeks.
It must be said that they have been in near-perfect form during the 2025/26 season so far, and that is why they are held to very high standards. Nevertheless, their record has suffered a few blemishes recently after conceding their first league defeat against Augsburg in late January. Last weekend, Bayern looked a bit shaky again against Hamburger as they drew 2–2.
Leipzig have not been able to find consistency after their early-season nine-game unbeaten streak that was ended by Hoffenheim. Since then, Ole Werner’s team has not managed to string results together regularly.
