Brighton & Hove Albion, meanwhile, caused problems with their dynamic front four and capitalized on their momentum to earn a crucial point.

Years of dominance were always bound to take a toll on Manchester City, but a decline of this magnitude has been unexpected, especially given the high standards Pep Guardiola has maintained. 

What’s done is done, and with the season nearing its end, a realignment of objectives has become vital. Yet, even securing a Champions League spot - a formality for City in the past decade - is now under serious threat. Following their latest toothless defeat to Nottingham Forest, City find themselves in fifth place, still within the Champions League qualification spot, but with just five points separating them from tenth. Consequently, Guardiola has stated that his team must approach the remaining fixtures as “ten finals” - a familiar situation for the club in recent years, though the circumstances are markedly different this time.

Guardiola replaced the injured Ederson with Stefan Ortega, with the back four consisting of Rico Lewis, Abdukodir Khusanov, Rúben Dias, and Joško Gvardiol. Nico González, İlkay Gündoğan, and Omar Marmoush formed the midfield trio, while Jérémy Doku, Savinho, and Erling Haaland spearheaded the attack.
