Manchester United – Olympique Lyonnais: From Control to Chaos (5-4)

After undoing the Lyon defensive scheme in the first half, Manchester United seemed to be in full control of this game. However, a Lyon resurgence stunned Old Trafford despite the away side being down to ten men, before a chaotic extra-time eventually saw United prevail in the final moments.

Last week's first leg game in Lyon left this tie finely poised for the return leg. Manchester United had almost been able to escape France with a win against a Lyon side who had played relatively well, however a late equalizer from Rayan Cherki leveled the score.

Rúben Amorim deployed his usual 3-4-3 system, with a back three of Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, and Leny Yoro, while Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro partnered in central midfield again. Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu were the wing-backs, while the front three comprised of Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Højlund, and Bruno Fernandes.

Lyon meanwhile used a 4-2-3-1 shape, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Clinton Mata, Moussa Niakhaté, and Nicolás Tagliafico in the back four. Paul Akouokou and Jordan Veretout were the central midfielders, with Corentin Tolisso as the number ten. Cherki and Georges Mikautadze played either side of Thiago Almada in the forward line.
