A race that Lille have slipped out of, following a disastrous start to 2026 that now sees them seven points behind Lyon.

Olympique Lyonnais have refound their early-season form and entered Sunday’s game on a nine-match winning streak. The arrival of Endrick on loan from Real Madrid has added some extra flexibility ot a squad that had at times been criticised for a certain toothlessness. The UEFA Champions League positions were in sight ahead of Lille OSC’s visit, and a win would bring Lyon level on points with rivals Olympique de Marseille.
Things couldn’t be more different for Lille OSC, who have let their grip on the Champions League spots slip away. Les Dogues blundered to their first win of 2026 on Thursday night, ending a five-game losing streak by beating ten-man Freiburg SC with a last-minute penalty in the UEFA Europa League. Injuries have been common and results terrible, leaving Lille to deny rumours that Bruno Génésio had offered to resign following a 2-1 defeat to Celta de Vigo.
