Toulouse FC came out swinging as they looked to rock RC Lens and spoil the visitors’ title charge. An early red card for Emersonn would unravel their plans and flatten the spiky atmosphere, allowing Les Lensois a procession rather than a fight.

Toulouse FC do not get the same attention as RC Strasbourg Alsace, even though they follow a similar model. It’s obvious why. Strasbourg’s youth revolution has been propelled in the wider consciousness by the riches of BlueCo and their association with Chelsea, while Toulouse are doing the same on a tighter budget. The results, however, are similar. Toulouse sat level on points with Strasbourg ahead of their meeting with the league leaders on Friday night. 

RC Lens have been Ligue 1’s surprise package. Coming into 2026, the northerners were perched at the top of the table, a point above Paris Saint-Germain following a six-game winning streak. To say this was unexpected would be quite an understatement. Ahead of this season, most predicted Lens would struggle to find a way back into Europe, but summer appointment Pierre Sage has (once again) worked miracles in a very short space of time. 

Carles Martínez Novell would set his side up in a 3-4-3 shape. Guillaume Restes was in goal behind a defense consisting of Rasmus Nicolaisen, Charlie Cresswell, and Mark McKenzie. In midfield, Cristian Cásseres Jr. and Alexis Vossah were flanked by wing-backs Rafik Messali and Djibril Sidibé. Up front, Emersonn was supported by Aron Dønnum and Yann Gboho.
