Bayern Munich have been bullying their way through opponents since the international break. Nine points from their three Bundesliga outings have controlled the gap to the top of the table where Bayer Leverkusen still sit. Outstanding has been their haul of fifteen goals, seven of which are courtesy of Harry Kane. He snatched a second hat trick in as many weeks in a four goal destruction of Borussia Dortmund. Such sharpness could ensure the completion of another objective in their campaign.

Three points would book Bavarian passage into the Round of 16, but that possibility was not on the cards for much of the reverse fixture. Galatasaray's 3-2 defeat of Manchester United rattled cages in the group, and the Turks took the game to the favorites for first place a fortnight ago. Two late strikes in that match earned victory for the Germans, but their visitors still reached the midway mark of this phase in second position.
