Liverpool – Real Madrid: Bombs Away! Liverpool Relentless In Siege Of Real Goal At Anfield (2-0)

Arne Slot’s Liverpool side were relentless in creating opportunities on goal against Real Madrid at Anfield. Penalties were missed at both ends by Kylian Mbappe & Mo Salah, but Alexis Mac Allister’s goal & a header by substitute Cody Gakpo secured the win for the Reds despite heroics by Thibaut Courtois in the Real goal.

“Arne Slot, na na na na na”, chants sung in praise of the new Liverpool manager Arne Slot rang around across the stadium at Anfield deep into the second half. This is Liverpool’s new iteration, this is the Kop’s new hero. Anfield has seen its share of UEFA Champions League stories unfold being urged on by the Kop & Anfield faithful in unison, but this was a performance & win to savour –  a statement victory for the Dutch manager over the current Champions League title holders, sending out a warning to the rest of Europe. 

Liverpool have been rather impressive under the Dutch boss so far this season; their domestic form mirrors that. Slot has managed to fix the deficiencies under Jurgen Klopp to make Liverpool a complete & finished product and a side that can’t be taken lightly. There are of course arguments that Slot inherited a set defense & solid squad but there was work to be done, and Slot has arguably perfected his proverbial Slot machine. 

On this particular night, Liverpool laid siege on the Real goal at Anfield and if it wasn’t for heroics by Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois the scoreline could’ve been much worse for the Madrid outfit . . .
