Lorient – Paris Saint-Germain: Pereira Powers The Parisians To Victory (1-2)

Are Lorient legit? This question has hung over a team whose results are conforming to type. More dropped points in this clash did no good for the form table, but their performance preyed upon Parisian weaknesses to highlight why they are so high up the standings in the first place.

Tactical analysis and match report by Emmanuel Adeyemi-Abere.

Striving to hold onto their status as the table toppers of Ligue 1 for the second year in a row and the ninth season from the last eleven, PSG continue to set the pace in France. Christophe Galtier has strayed away from the 3-4-1-2 structure in which the champions flew out of the traps, but domestic domination still looks secure. Three wins from three in a diamond system have extended the gap at the summit to five points: this fixture was another opportunity to gain distance from the chasing pack.

Indeed, Lorient will be mindful of falling by the wayside. At the start of October, they were the best of the rest and sat on the coattails of the Parisians, only one point adrift from the top of the standings. However, two draws and a loss in their last three matches have opened that difference by another seven as the club has now dropped off into fourth position. The likelihood of a return to winning ways was slim, but it was imperative to prove the opening to the campaign was not a flash in the pan.
