Olympique Lyonnais stunned a much-changed Paris Saint-Germain side at the Parc des Princes. All three points would go to the visitors after their first-half blitz, as they ended the weekend on the podium and with one hand gripping a spot in the Champions League. For PSG, an unexpected loss opens the door to RC Lens’s title challenge with only one point separating the two teams… and a game in hand for the capital side.

There’s a certain familiarity to the way Paris Saint-Germain have been moving into gear since the start of the new year. Like last season, Les Parisiens weren’t all that impressive or consistent in the early stages of the campaign, but after the winter break, they have been an entirely different beast. Luis Enrique has his squad hitting their stride at exactly the right time. 

This was certainly a worry for Paulo Fonseca’s Olympique Lyonnais. A barren run of fixtures was finally ended last weekend with the 2-0 win over FC Lorient, but the concern will be that they were far from convincing in victory. Confidence is clearly low, as witnessed by the way they retreated into their shell to hold onto a positive result amid a run of nine games without a win. 

It was all change for Luis Enrique, who made six alterations from the side that defeated Liverpool during the week. Illia Zabarnyi moved into the center of defense for Marquinhos, while Lucas Hernandez replaced the injured Nuno Mendes . . .
