The eagerly awaited clash between RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen was the highlight match of the weekend in the Bundesliga. The two teams entered the game with different results mid-week in the Champions League. Leipzig had a strong result as they beat Sporting 2-1. Although it was a narrow win on paper, they had easily created better chances in the game. Meanwhile, Leverkusen had an action-packed battle against Atlético Madrid. The dramatic match with many goal-scoring chances ended 2-1 to the Spanish team. Although that put an end to Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten run in all competitions, it was an outcome that would not affect their momentum.

Marco Rose made numerous alterations to the team that played mid-week to put fresher legs on the field. Most changes were seen in midfield, where Kevin Kampl, Arthur Vermeeren, and Antonio Nusa featured instead of Nicolas Seiwald, Amadou Haidara, and Christoph Baumgartner.
