Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis side earned a shock victory over Real Madrid at the Estadio Benito Villamarín. An early first half goal from Brahim Diaz was cancelled out by a header from a corner by Johnny and Betis captain Isco’s decisive penalty in the second half sealed the victory for the home side as they stunned the current league holders Real, throwing the LaLiga title race wide open.

This season’s LaLiga title race is edging closer to going right down to the wire. After last night’s game where Betis sealed a 2-1 win over current LaLiga champions Real Madrid at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, the race for this season’s LaLiga title has been thrown wide open.
It’s safe to say that it’s been coming. Real have been patchy at best in their recent form in LaLiga and have just about scraped results over the line. Their heroics over Manchester City in the Champions league aside, a 1-0 loss to Espanyol, and two 1-1 draws against both Atletico and Osasuna sandwiched between their 2-0 win over Girona going into this game have seen Real relinquish their spot at the top of LaLiga.
But after last night’s 2-1 loss to Pellegrini’s resurgent Betis, Real don’t have a straightforward path to winning LaLiga anymore as the likes of Atleti and Barcelona have caught up.
