It was a dominant performance from Real Madrid, as they made light work of La Real at both ends of the pitch. The Karim Benzema-less attack still succeeded through goals from Luka Jović and Vinícius Junior, while Éder Militão put in his best performance of the LaLiga campaign so far to earn Real Madrid a clean sheet.

Immanol Alguacil’s La Real began matchday sixteen third-placed in the LaLiga campaign, with the chance to jump to second place if they could get three points off of Real Madrid. The Basque side had not been in great form of late, as they only won two of their last six matches in LaLiga. Though they had been struggling recently, their solid start to the domestic campaign had helped them maintain their solid position in the league table, and La Real were desperate to build some momentum to reignite their title challenge. 

La Real were still without David Silva and Mikel Merino for the match against Real Madrid, and Alguacil only made a single change to his starting eleven that lost to Espanyol, with Alexander Isak returning the lineup in favor of Portu. The rest of the La Real’s lineup was made up of Alex Remiro in goal with Andoni Gorosabel, Igor Zubeldia, Robin Le Normand, and Diego Rico in the back line; Adnan Januzaj, Ander Guevara, Martín Zubimendi, and Mikel Oyarzabal across the midfield, and the Scandinavian pair Alexander Sørloth and Alexander Isak as the two strikers.
