Stade Brestois – Paris Saint-Germain: The Parisians Secure Their First Win, But They Can Thank Matvey Safonov (0-1)

PSG picked up their first Ligue 1 win of the season by beating Brest by the narrowest of margins. An early goal from Ferran Torres, his sixth since joining Les Rouge et Bleu, and some late saves from Matvey Safonov were enough to secure this crucial victory.

Two teams with somewhat different fortunes at the start of the season. One could say that Stade Brestois had yet to lose at the start of the season, whilst one could say that Paris Saint-Germain had yet to win. The aim for the Parisians, therefore, was to finally kick-start their season by taking all three points at Stade Francis-Le Blé.

The evening also began with an emotional moment, with a tribute paid to Éric Roy, the iconic former Brest coach who died of cancer on June 17. He had led the club to their first Champions League campaign in 2024/2025, which ended with PSG eliminating them in the play-offs. All the Brest shirts on the pitch had “King” printed on the back.

Julien Lachuer opted for a 4-2-3-1, with Egil Selvik in goal, protected by Bradley Locko, Gautier Lloris, Raphaël Le Guen and Kenny Lala. Hugo Magnetti and Joris Chotard formed the double pivot, with Pathé Mboup, Kamory Doumbia and Giovani Versini supporting Ludovic Ajorque.
