A match that seemed bound for a goalless draw was unexpectedly brought to life at the end. Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund struggled to generate quality chances throughout the game, despite the home side especially having opportunities. Niko Kovač’s conservative game plan paid off in the end, as Dortmund capitalized in the final minutes.

With the final international break out of the way, players and clubs turned their attention to the business end of the season. The Bundesliga remains exciting, as there are numerous interesting storylines.

For Stuttgart, Champions League hopes continue burning bright, as they remain in strong contention for qualification. It would be a huge achievement, as it would result in Champions League qualification in two out of the last three seasons, especially for a club with Stuttgart’s budget. However, the race seems tight, with RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim, and Bayer Leverkusen in close proximity.

Borussia Dortmund are not concerned about this, as their second-place position seems firm. An eleven-point gap provides enough room for a slip in form. They are instead looking upward in the table. However, a nine-point difference with reigning champions Bayern Munich means that the chances of winning the league are also slim.

Both sides had to maintain form as they look to achieve their season goals. A clash between them was also going to be a tough but interesting tie.
