Villarreal – Real Madrid: Mbappe Double Sinks Yellow Submarine (1-2)
Real Madrid claimed the spoils against Villarreal in their away fixture at the Estadi del a Ceramica. Kylian Mbappe scored a quickfire brace after Juan Foyth bundled the ball over the line from a corner in the first half. Mbappe’s goals gave Real the victory as they remain top of La Liga by a slender margin.

It’s been some week for Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid. Progression in the Champions League against Atletico into the quarter-finals to play Arsenal came with its share of ups and downs and controversy. Real eventually progressed past their crosstown rivals in a tight penalty shootout after Julian Alvarez’s penalty was disallowed because he was adjudged to have struck the ball twice.
Real’s lead at the top of LaLiga is a slender one. As things stand they’re on 60 points from 28 games. However, Barcelona are three points behind on 57 points but with two games in hand. Meanwhile, Atletico are on 56 points with one game in hand over Real. It certainly is pretty neck and neck in LaLiga with the title far from being decided. But Real had to win this game to ensure that they held their lead against Barcelona by the slightest of margins.
It was imperative that Real picked up the three points away against Villarreal who find themselves in 5th spot in LaLiga competing with the likes of Athletic . . .
