Manchester City came into this game knowing that they had to work to do to atone for mistakes in the past. But Borussia Dortmund had no intention of rolling over for their guests. With fire in their bellies and nothing to lose, they pegged back City early on. Yet, their rebellion could only last so long, as City tweaked and tweaked until they quashed their efforts, looking to their homegrown star boy once more to make the difference on the night.

Borussia Dortmund came into this game with little to lose. As their top four hopes dwindled again on the weekend, the laborious 3-2 victory at Stuttgart highlighted their struggles on the domestic front this year. However, the Champions League has been a different story, edging past Sevilla to get to this stage. Now coming into this leg with a slim deficit, they hoped to pull off a stunning comeback.

Manchester City's pursuit of glory continues, but the path to success is never smooth. Though they sealed a win in the first leg, the manner of the result failed to live up to the side's lofty expectations. Going on to lose 2-1 to Leeds United on the weekend, their momentum took another hit.
