Empoli – Juventus: Motta’s Revamp Lacked End Product As Both Sides Played Out Lacklustre Stalemate (0-0)

Thiago Motta’s Juventus side played out a painstaking draw against Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani. A dreary first half culminated in a goalless draw by full time as both sides cancelled each other out with few notable chances. This was the Bianconeri’s second consecutive 0-0 draw this season but they remain unbeaten.

Casting a glimpse back to Juventus sides of old, there’s a gulf in Motta’s young project and what The Old Lady are used to; they were littered with world-class players and some of the biggest names in football. The black and white of Juve’s colours remain but things aren’t as clear as black and white when it comes to Motta’s squad. Despite money being spent this is a young Juve side arguably made out of spare parts and not cutting-edge tech. This new reincarnation of Juve lacks that glitz of tried and tested world class players - it could work or it could backfire.

Despite two 3-0 wins to kick off the season, this game showed Juve’s weaknesses most notably in attack where they lack any kind of deadly firepower or goal threat against an organised defense; their lack of end product was glaringly evident on this particular evening against Serie A strugglers Empoli.

The away side just about managed to avoid being relegated last season finishing seventeenth in the end, so this was a game Juventus should’ve easily won. However, Juve struggled and in truth, Empoli could’ve snatched a win on the break late on.
