Both teams may have been on matching points but on very different momentum swings.
After Milan inflicted a first derby defeat for Simone Inzaghi, Inter travelled to Udinese under pressure after draws away to Monza and Genoa. Lautaro Martínez scored his first goals of the season, in a pivotal 3-2 victory, but questions remain over the chances that they have been conceding since the start of the season. A 4-0 victory over Crvena zvezda appeared to have calmed the curiosities, but they will remain until the Scudetto holders are back at Serie A’s summit.
An impressive display at the San Siro, at this season’s curtain raiser against Milan, sparked a strong run of form for Torino. Paolo Vanoli’s team had the opportunity to retake their top spot last weekend, but Lazio deployed the ideal game plan to counteract their Conte-esque patterns. If they are to keep with the top-four pace, a competitive performance against Inter, who they haven’t beaten since 2019, would go a long way.
