Two wins, two draws, and two losses from their last six games reflect Fiorentina's season. Sitting in eleventh place before this game, the hosts’ results have been inconsistent. Narrowly losing out to their visitors close the last time these two teams met, they now hoped to take all three points and, in turn, achieve another scalp of one of the league's giants.

In pursuit of an elusive Scudetto, Inter have slightly stuttered in recent weeks. After a streak of eight wins in the league, they have gone on to take only two more from their last five games. But coming into this match after shutting down Benevento last weekend, the guests now hoped to find a similar run of form in the race to claim the Serie A crown.
