In the main event of this weekend’s Ligue 1 action, Marseille could count on a very inspired Dimitri Payet, who scored a double to lead them to victory. Despite an early red card in the second half, André Villas-Boas’ side managed to keep their lead, meaning they are now second in Ligue 1. Tactical analysis […]
From an offensive point of view, this was a very poor game. Because of better finishing, Marseille manufactured two goals in the second half, forcing a reaction from Lille, which came in the form of a single goal and a late offensive run that was enough for a result. Tactical analysis and match report by […]
In the French Classique, the first half was enough to leave Marseille for dead. The abundance of Parisian offensive talent punished André Villas-Boas’ risky tactical approach with four goals before half-time. After a much calmer second half, this also turned out to be the final score. Tactical analysis and match report by Simon Piotr. Despite […]
It was a game of two halves between two similar teams on this season’s beginning. Tactical analysis and match report by Simon Piotr. Respectively 7th and […]
Both teams took turns scoring goals against terrible defensive structures, with Olympique Marseille ultimately ending up on top. In a not so brilliant, yet very important game, Marseille managed to be solid enough to get the best of Saint-Étienne and win the game 1-0. Benedetto scored on Marseille’s first and only real chance after half an hour of play, which was enough to seal the game. Tactical analysis and match report by Simon […]
The talent in Lyon’s squad is well known, and it helped them to a 0-3 win over Marseille. They were aided by a relatively low tactical level from Marseille though, as Lyon were able to exploit their man-marking midfield to get the first goal. Lyon were then also helped by a Marseille red card, which […]
What, in all truths, felt like a smooth Bordeaux win was actually a much closer-fought contest. Bordeaux’s persistence with their direct and effective long-ball strategy paid dividends as the inside forwards were given a lot to work with. The same could not be said for Marseille, despite some moments of encouragement, particularly from Florian Thauvin. […]
In a surprisingly cagey Le Classique, Paris Saint-Germain triumphed thanks to a brilliant performance from Ángel Di María. The Argentinian had an opener chalked off after consultation of the Video Assistant Referee, before assisting the first goal, scoring the other two and enforcing Steve Mandanda’s sending off. Olympique Marseille manager Rudy Garcia got his tactics […]
Poor were the souls, those neutral football enthusiasts, who noticed there was a Ligue 1 match in the late afternoon of a Tuesday and decided to give it a go. No level of hipsterism would make it possible to even pretend to enjoy such a poor spectacle as a patched up Olympique de Marseille were […]
